Assistant HSE/Compliance Manager

TDI-Brooks International is seeking a motivated individual to assist and support the Health, Safety, Environmental, and Marine Compliance Managers.  A maritime background is not required but a plus.  The job is located in College Station, TX at TDI-Brooks’ main campus.

TDI-Brooks operates four (4) multi-use oceanographic research vessels.  Our mission is to safely deliver high-quality oceanographic services to the marine environmental, geochemical, geotechnical, and survey marketplace, including acquisition, sampling, analysis, and scientific interpretation.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Enter/ track data in our internal systems
  • Maintain current information/ postings on multiple internal systems
  • Support and Assist the HSE and Compliance officers with daily tasks
  • Support the Director of Marine Operations as required
  • Provide technical support to our vessels for our internal systems

Qualifications and Skills

Must-Have

  • A university degree in an appropriate field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability and willingness to work with multiple departments to solve system issues
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to pass a background check and random drug screen
  • Acceptance to change in a fast, ever-changing environment

Nice to Have

  • Willingness to go to sea for a few months a year in 2-3 week increments on one of our research vessels
  • Working knowledge and experience developing WordPress websites
  • Relevant offshore experience in the marine industry
  • Working knowledge of USCG And international shipping regulations/ requirements
  • Experience using Vessel maintenance and compliance software

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Acquire environmental, chemical, and biological samples and measurement from the water column and seabed in U.S. and foreign waters using various tools and methods
  • Process, analyze, and report the data to clients
  • Supervise operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Install, mobilize, and repair survey instruments and samplers

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience required.

Marine Position: Master

Master's Job Description

Vessel Masters Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Master’s Endorsement 200grt or greater,
  • STCW Compliant, OC Endorsement (preferred but not required in all circumstances).
  • A valid USCG - 719K Medical Certificate
  • A valid Passport (preferred but not required)
  • A valid TWIC Card (preferred but not required in all circumstances)

 Position Summary for Vessel Masters:

  • Supervises the safe operation and maintenance of vessels.
  • Conducts on-the-job training and conducts drills per USCG requirements.
  • Assists the Port Captain in daily operations and documentation processes.
  • Ensures crew/vessel safety and compliance with company safety instructions and USCG regulations.
  • Confers with the Port Captain on all issues pertaining to safety, discipline, purchasing and training.
  • Accurately maintains all required logbooks and vessel documentation.
  • Ensures the proper PPE is available and worn at all times, for the assigned tasks.
  • Ensures that all crew members are in compliance with company safety policies and procedures.

Master’s Responsibility and Authority

Authority:

The Vessel Master maintains the responsibility to make informed, appropriate, and concise decisions pertaining to vessel safety and pollution prevention.

 Position Summary for Chief Engineers:

  • Conducts on-the-job training and ensures engine room competencies
  • Assists the Port Engineer in daily operations and documentation processes
