TDI-Brooks and Laboratory Affiliate, B&B Laboratories, have been awarded a $9 Million, 5-year GSA Contract for analytical chemistry services. The award with a performance period of 30, September 2019 to September 2020 with a 4 year extension thereafter is in support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS). The project is a continuation and extension of three previous 5-year projects for the NOAA NS&T Mussel Watch Program.
NOAA’s Mussel Watch Program is a key part of the Nation’s coastal monitoring infrastructure. At the regional level, the Mussel Watch Program works with federal, state, and local stakeholders to provide relevant information to support decision making. The program is primarily recognized for its status and trends assessment of chemical contaminants measured in bivalve tissue (mussels and oysters) nationwide.
TDI-Brooks and our affiliate B&B Laboratories will conduct the field sampling and trace organic analyses on tissues and sediments collected as part of NOAA’s National Status and Trends Program (NS&T). The analytes of interest for this program are as follows:
- Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their alkylated homologs
- Chlorinated Pesticides
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
- Polybrominated Flame Retardants (PBDEs and PPBs)
- Butyltins (BTs)
The methods performed will be utilized by the Mussel Watch Project and Bioeffects Project, which are both part of the NS&T program. The Mussel Watch Project has been monitoring contaminants in bivalves and sediments since 1986 and is the longest active national contaminant monitoring program operating in U.S. coastal waters. Approximately 300 Mussel Watch sites are sampled on a biennial and decadal timescale for bivalve tissue and sediment respectively. These programs are the two premier long-term coastal environmental monitoring programs in the nation.
Many of TDI-Brooks personnel have been involved in this project since its inception in 1986 and this award represents the fifth, consecutive five-year contract to TDI-Brooks for the NOAA NS&T Program.
